CAF and Data Spaces: Technology Ready for Connected and Automated Mobility
The mobility of the future is built upon new ways of sharing data securely, in a standardized and efficient manner. Data spaces enable different organizations to collaborate and exchange information under common rules, while always maintaining control and sovereignty over their data.
In this context, connected and automated mobility requires digital infrastructures capable of managing large volumes of operational data, integrating security, interoperability, and trust. CAF incorporates this vision into its digital mobility strategy, where data becomes a key element for optimizing operations, improving efficiency, and advancing towards more sustainable transport systems.
Through the EDMO2ZERO project, CAF demonstrates its capability to materialize a railway data space designed from the outset under principles of governance, interoperability, and security. This data space enables the integration and processing of information from multiple sources, with clear mechanisms for control and traceability, and with the capacity to scale across different operators, vehicle types, and diverse use cases throughout the mobility lifecycle.
This approach is validated through real use cases, such as the one developed with Zaragoza Tram, focused on the measurement and analysis of carbon footprint based on operational data. These types of applications illustrate how data spaces allow transforming information generated during daily operations into actionable knowledge for decision-making and continuous service improvement.
Beyond specific use cases, EDMO2ZERO conveys a clear message: data spaces are not a theoretical concept, but a reality that CAF is ready to adopt and scale. The combination of technology, standards, and mobility expertise positions CAF as a key player in the evolution towards a more connected, automated, and data-driven mobility.
With this initiative, CAF reinforces its commitment to the development of digital solutions that enable the mobility of the future, aligning technological innovation with collaboration among stakeholders within the framework of European data spaces.
