Nobina Sverige AB, one of the largest public transport operators in Scandinavia, has confirmed a new contract with Solaris for the delivery of 180 zero-emission Urbino electric buses to be operated in Malmö, Sweden. This contract is worth around €150M.
This is one of the largest electric bus orders in Solaris's history in this region, and it marks a new stage in the long and successful collaboration between Solaris and Nobina. The new fleet made up of 180 electric buses is scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027. The vehicles will be of varying lengths: 12, 15, 18 and 24 metres. The vehicles will serve urban and suburban routes in Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city. This major investment marks a significant step towards the full electrification of Malmö's public transport system.
Malmö has played an important role in Solaris' history in the Nordic countries and has supplied a large number of vehicles for its transport network, primarily trolleybuses and electric buses. Additionally, Malmö is one of the few European cities where 24-metre biarticulated buses operate in regular urban traffic.
Specifically, the agreement includes 78 Solaris Urbino 18 articulated electric buses fitted with 600 kWh batteries, 36 Solaris Urbino 24 electric buses with 700 kWh batteries, 65 Solaris Urbino 15 LE low-floor electric buses with 500 kWh batteries and one Solaris Urbino 12 electric bus with 400 kWh batteries This wide range of vehicle lengths and configurations allows the fleet to be optimally adapted to the diverse operational needs in the city and its surroundings.
Additionally, Solaris has been present in Sweden since 2003, delivering nearly 800 buses to date. The company has recently been awarded two contracts totalling 170 electric buses to serve urban and suburban routes in the Stockholm area and the province of Skåne.
The order for Malmö is another important step towards achieving the region's ambitious climate targets and confirms Solaris's pivotal role in transforming public transport to zero-emission solutions.

A strategic market for CAF
CAF has carried out numerous railway projects in the strategically important and growing Scandinavian market, including supplying units for the high-speed line linking Oslo city centre with its airport, the Helsinki metro and tram fleets for cities such as Stockholm, Oslo and Lund.
In Sweden, CAF is currently executing two major railway contracts, consisting of supplying over 50 regional trains to operators AB Transitio and SJ AB. These contracts can be extended in the future by exercising the options provided for in the contracts. In addition, EuroMaint is a leader in the Swedish railway services sector. With a workforce of more than 1,000 people, it operates maintenance contracts for some of the region's main train fleets. It also supplies railway components to operators.
All of the above confirms Sweden's firm commitment to transforming mobility to be more sustainable, a process in which CAF has successfully played a significant role through numerous projects developed in the region in recent years.
