The Governor of Riyadh, Prince Faisal bin Bandar, has announced that the trains are scheduled for revenue operation at the start of next year. These statements have been made during the 200 km trial run between Riad and Al Majma’ah which has also been witnessed, among others, by the CEO of the public transport organization, SAR, Mr. Rumaih Al-Rmaih.
These new SAR trains will operate on the line linking the Saudi Capital, Riad, and the northern part of the country. The route will progressively extend to cities such as Al Majma’ah and Hail and the Jouf region, and eventually reach the Al Qurayyat city on the border with Jordan.
This project developed by CAF for SAR covers six trains: four for daytime service consisting of two power cars and nine coaches, and two further trains for overnight service which in this case will consist of two power cars and thirteen coaches. With a total seating capacity of 444 passengers, these units are fitted with the most advanced and modern technologies for railway transit.
