TRAMTECH: Research on Enabling Technologies for the Next Generation of Autonomous Trams

The TRAMTECH project was launched with the goal of researching technology that will enable the new generation of URBOS trams to perform automated driving functions using on-board equipment, thereby assisting the driver and increasing the autonomy of the service. TRAMTECH will improve operational flexibility, precision, safety, control, and efficiency, while minimizing dependence on infrastructure signaling systems.
The project, carried out within FEDER (“a way to build Europe”), has received funding from the European Union through the NextGenerationEU Funds and is subsidized by the Basque Government, specifically the Department of Industry, Energy Transition, and Sustainability, as part of the HAZITEK call.
