ZIURMAT: RESEARCH ON ADVANCED MATERIALS AND ARCHITECTURES FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE THERMAL SAFETY OF ENERGY STORAGE IN ELECTRIFIED INFRASTRUCTURES.
Participating company: CAF Power & Automation
Start - End: 2026 - 2028
ZIURMAT researches a new family of materials and multilayer architectures to maximize thermal insulation and ensure comprehensive safety against battery thermal runaway in electrified systems. It combines passive solutions (aerogels, foams, microporous materials and fire-resistant barriers) with sensor systems and laboratory validation and incorporates industrialization and automation criteria. It targets mobility, ESS/BESS applications, as well as critical environments such as railway, naval and building sectors.
The project, carried out within FEDER (“a way to build Europe”), has received funding from the European Union through the NextGenerationEU Funds and is subsidized by the Basque Government, specifically the Department of Industry, Energy Transition, and Sustainability, as part of the HAZITEK call.
